How to Upload Videos to Skill Studio AI
This guide helps you upload video files to Skill Studio AI courses in supported formats. You'll learn which formats work best, how to optimize your videos, and how the platform handles transcoding for web playback.
Before You Start
A Skill Studio AI account with active course creation access
Video files in MP4, WebM, MOV, or AVI format (MP4 is recommended)
Video file size within your plan limits (typically under 4 GB per file)
Videos encoded with H.264 codec for best compatibility
Optional: SRT caption files if you want to upload pre-made captions
Steps
Open your course in the editor — Navigate to the course where you want to add video content and locate the course editing interface.
Add a new video screen or module — Click the option to add a new screen and select "Video" from the available screen types, or insert a video module into an existing section.
Upload your video file — Click the upload button and select your video file from your computer. Ensure it's in MP4, WebM, MOV, or AVI format and under your plan's file size limit.
Wait for automatic transcoding to complete — Skill Studio AI automatically transcodes your video for web playback and generates multiple quality levels for adaptive streaming. This process may take a few minutes depending on file size.
Add captions for accessibility — Upload an SRT caption file or use the AI caption generation feature to add captions to your video. This improves accessibility and learner engagement.
Preview and publish — Preview your video to confirm transcoding completed successfully and captions appear correctly, then publish your course.
Tips & Best Practices
Use MP4 format with H.264 codec for best compatibility and smallest file size. This reduces upload time and storage usage.
Optimize your video before uploading by reducing resolution and bitrate if possible. This speeds up both upload and transcoding, and reduces cloud storage consumption.
Enable AI-generated captions even if you have pre-made SRT files. This creates redundancy and ensures captions are always available, improving compliance and accessibility scores.
Test video playback on multiple devices (desktop, tablet, mobile) after publishing. The adaptive streaming will automatically adjust quality, but you should verify it works smoothly on your learners' devices.
Combine videos with other screen types like quizzes or knowledge checks after your video to reinforce learning and track comprehension.
Troubleshooting
Video takes a very long time to transcode
Large files or complex codecs slow transcoding. Try optimizing your video to a lower bitrate and resolution before uploading, or split very long videos into multiple shorter segments.
Video plays with poor quality or buffering issues
This may indicate the adaptive streaming isn't working properly. Clear your browser cache, try a different browser, or check your internet connection. If the issue persists, re-upload the video in MP4 format with H.264 codec.
Captions don't appear on video playback
Verify that you uploaded the SRT file correctly or that AI caption generation completed successfully. Check that captions are enabled in the video settings and that your browser supports caption display.
Upload fails or video is rejected
Confirm your file is in one of the supported formats (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI), is under your plan's file size limit, and uses H.264 codec. Try re-encoding with HandBrake or a similar tool if the file appears corrupted.
