How to Enable the AI Tutor Concierge
The AI Tutor Concierge provides conversational assistance to learners as they progress through courses, allowing them to ask questions, request explanations, and receive personalized recommendations. Use this guide to activate the tutor for your courses and configure its capabilities.
Before You Start
Access to a Skill Studio AI account with course creation or editing permissions
At least one course already created and published in your workspace
Course content uploaded (PDFs, PowerPoints, SOPs, or policies) that the tutor will reference
Knowledge Base populated with organizational resources the tutor should access when answering learner questions
Administrator or instructor role to access course settings
Steps
Navigate to Course Settings — Open the course where you want to enable the AI Tutor Concierge. Locate and click the course settings or configuration menu, typically found in the course dashboard or administration panel.
Locate the AI Tutor Toggle — In course settings, find the option labeled "AI Tutor" or "AI Learning Assistant" and toggle it to the "On" or "Enabled" position. This activates the tutor for that specific course.
Verify Learner Interface — After enabling, test the learner experience by accessing the course as a student would. Confirm that a chat icon appears in the course interface, typically in the sidebar or bottom-right corner, which opens the assistant panel.
Review Course Content Context — Ensure the tutor has access to your course material by verifying that all uploaded documents, lesson content, and resources are properly indexed. The tutor uses this content to answer learner questions accurately.
Connect Your Knowledge Base — Link your organization's Knowledge Base to the course so the tutor can reference company policies, FAQs, and additional resources when providing answers beyond the immediate course material.
Test Core Tutor Capabilities — Use the enabled tutor to verify it can perform key functions: answer questions about course content, provide simpler explanations when requested, and suggest next steps or additional resources based on learner progress.
Configure Explanation Adaptivity — Review tutor settings to ensure responses adapt to learner knowledge levels. The tutor should automatically adjust complexity based on demonstrated understanding during interactions.
Save and Publish Changes — Click save or apply to finalize the tutor enablement for this course. Publish the course if required to make the changes live for enrolled learners.
Tips & Best Practices
Enable the tutor on one pilot course first to test functionality and learner engagement before rolling out to all courses. This allows you to refine Knowledge Base content and review tutor responses before wider deployment.
Keep your Knowledge Base current and well-organized with clear, concise content. The tutor's answer quality depends directly on the resources available to it, so regularly audit and update reference materials.
Monitor tutor interactions using analytics dashboards to identify frequently asked questions. Use these insights to enhance course content or update Knowledge Base entries to address common learner confusion points.
Set learner expectations by including information about the tutor in course introductions or onboarding materials. Explain what the tutor can help with and encourage students to use it for clarification and recommendations.
The tutor performs best when course content is well-structured with clear learning objectives and segmented lessons. Organize materials logically so the tutor can reference specific sections when answering context-dependent questions.
Troubleshooting
Chat icon does not appear for learners after enabling the tutor
Verify the tutor toggle is fully enabled in course settings. Clear browser cache and refresh the page. Confirm the learner has enrolled in the course and has permission to access it. Check that your Skill Studio AI instance supports the AI Tutor feature for your subscription level.
Tutor provides inaccurate or irrelevant answers to learner questions
Review and enhance your Knowledge Base content to ensure it covers the topics learners are asking about. Audit course material organization to ensure content is clearly labeled and easy for the tutor to reference. Consider providing more specific context in course descriptions so the tutor better understands the learning domain.
Tutor responses are not adapting to learner knowledge level
Enable learner interaction tracking to ensure the tutor has sufficient data about demonstrated knowledge. Initial responses may be generic until the tutor observes learner behavior. Review tutor configuration settings to confirm adaptivity features are active and not restricted by course settings.
Tutor cannot access Knowledge Base information
Verify the Knowledge Base connection is active in course settings. Confirm Knowledge Base content is published and indexed. Check that content categories and tags are properly configured so the tutor can retrieve relevant resources. Test the connection by manually searching the Knowledge Base to ensure it is accessible.
