How to Enable Public Course Sharing

Public course sharing allows you to make your training content accessible to anyone without requiring login credentials. This guide helps you configure public access, capture leads, optimize for discovery, and track engagement—enabling you to expand your audience for marketing, lead generation, or open educational initiatives.

Before You Start

  • A Skill Studio AI account with at least one completed course ready for public distribution

  • Access to your course's settings and publishing options as an administrator

  • Optional: prepared lead capture form fields (minimum email, optional name/company)

  • Optional: SEO metadata (meta descriptions, keywords, and Open Graph tags) drafted for your course

  • Access to your Analytics dashboard to monitor public engagement post-launch

Steps

  1. Navigate to course settings — Open the course you want to share publicly and locate the Settings or Publishing section. Look for visibility or sharing controls where you can manage access levels.

  2. Change visibility to public — Switch the course visibility setting from "Private" or "Internal" to "Public." This removes the login requirement and makes the course accessible via a direct link or search engines.

  3. Enable and configure lead capture — Activate the lead capture form option and specify which fields learners must complete before accessing the course (email is required; name, company, or role are optional). This ensures visitor information is collected and stored in your Customers section for follow-up marketing.

  4. Set access restrictions (optional) — Configure whether users can access the full course or only a course excerpt after completing the lead form. Optionally set view limits or expiration windows for trial access if you want to encourage registration later.

  5. Add SEO metadata — Enter a compelling meta description (under 160 characters) and relevant keywords in the course SEO settings. This improves search engine visibility and click-through rates from organic search results.

  6. Configure social sharing previews — Add Open Graph tags (title, description, thumbnail image) so that when your course link is shared on social media, it displays a professional preview card with branding and key messaging.

  7. Generate and test your public link — Copy the public sharing link provided by Skill Studio AI and test it in an incognito or private browser window to confirm the lead capture form appears and the course loads as intended for non-logged-in visitors.

  8. Monitor analytics and conversions — After launch, check your Analytics dashboard regularly to track public views, geographic distribution of visitors, and conversion rates from public learners to registered users. Use this data to refine your messaging or targeting.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Keep your lead capture form minimal (email + one or two fields max) to reduce friction and improve conversion rates. The easier the form, the more leads you'll capture.

  • Use clear, benefit-focused course titles and descriptions for public courses—avoid internal jargon. This improves both SEO ranking and user motivation to complete the lead form.

  • Promote your public course link through email campaigns, social media, and partner websites where your target audience already gathers. Include the shareable link in sales collateral and job postings if relevant.

  • Consider offering a course excerpt (first module or key sections) to public users before they register, balancing lead capture with immediate value delivery and reducing abandonment.

  • Schedule regular reviews of public course analytics to identify which geographic regions, referral sources, or messaging drive the highest engagement, then double down on what works.

Troubleshooting

Public link shows an error or 404 page

Verify that the course visibility is set to "Public" in settings and that you copied the correct share link. If the issue persists, check that your account tier supports public sharing; some plans may restrict this feature to personal accounts only.

Lead capture form is not appearing for non-logged-in users

Confirm that you toggled on the lead capture feature in course settings and that the form fields are properly configured. Test the link again in an incognito window to bypass any browser cache. If it still doesn't appear, check that your lead capture form contains at least one required field (email).

SEO metadata not showing in search results

Search engines can take 2–4 weeks to re-index updated content. Use Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools to manually request indexing of your public course URL. Ensure meta descriptions are unique and under 160 characters, and that your course domain and page structure are SEO-friendly.

Social media preview not displaying correctly when sharing the link

Clear the social platform's cache by using their sharing debugger tools (e.g., Facebook's URL Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector). Confirm that Open Graph meta tags are correctly formatted in your course settings and that your thumbnail image is at least 1200 x 630 pixels.

Low conversion rates from public visitors to registered learners

Review your lead form fields—simplify or remove optional fields to reduce friction. Analyze your course excerpt content; if you're offering too much free content, learners may not feel motivated to register. Test different messaging or call-to-action copy to encourage further engagement.
